Regarding the companies that are taking advantage of this opportunity, the giant Viterra is in the first place, which in Argentina operates as Oleaginosa Moreno and exported more than 127,000 tons. Far behind was the cooperative Unión Agrícola de Avellaneda, which exported 50,600 tons.
Third place went to Bunge with shipments of 34,000 tons, and in fourth place was Aceitera General Deheza (AGD) with 30,000 tons. This last firm is even making investments to grow in this area because it not only exports but is also one of the main suppliers of sunflower oil in the domestic market.
Meanwhile, the fourth place went to the national capital company Molinos Agro with 29,000 tons and the fifth place was in the hands of the Chinese Cofco with 25,000 tons.
The truth is that these companies rule not only in the sunflower business but also in the rest of the agribusiness products.
In the accumulated until May, the Chinese Cofco exported just over 4.5 million tons of unprocessed grains, which represents 16% of the total that amounted to 27.8 million tons. Quite close behind in second place was Cargill with 4.2 million tons (15.4%), followed by ADM with 3.5 million tons (12.7%).
Fourth and fifth place went to Bunge and Dreyfus with 3.3 and 2.5 million respectively, and sixth place went to Viterra with 2 million tons, barely more than the national ACA and AGD, which they exported 1.9 million tons and 1.5 million tons respectively.
Finally, in terms of by-products and oils, Viterra continues to lead by far in both areas. In flour and expeller, it accumulated 2.7 million tons, which translates into 22% of the total, which was 12.4 million tons. In turn, in the oil segment its participation was 25.5% with just over 590,000 tons out of a total of 3.2 million.
