The number of photovoltaic systems in Germany has made a good leap upwards in the last twelve months. The share of electricity generation is now over six percent.
More and more companies and private households in Germany are using solar energy to generate electricity.
In March, 2.2 million photovoltaic systems with a total nominal output of 58,400 megawatts were installed on roofs and properties, as the Federal Statistical Office announced on Tuesday. This means that the number of systems has increased by 10.1 percent compared to the same month last year. Installed capacity increased by 9.7 percent.
With these photovoltaic systems, around 8.8 billion kilowatt hours of electricity from solar energy could be fed into the grid in the first quarter of this year, a good third more than in the same period last year. The share of photovoltaics in the total power generation in Germany was 6.3 percent in the first three months.
In January 2018, when the Wiesbaden statisticians first collected the figures, a good 1.7 million photovoltaic systems with a nominal output of 42,300 megawatts were installed in Germany. The amount of solar power fed into the grid was almost two thirds lower at 5.4 billion kilowatt hours in the first quarter of 2018.
