The Silicon Austria Labs (SAL) are supported by the Ministry of Climate Protection with 30 million euros. The money will be used to expand cutting-edge research in climate protection. The research center has branches in Graz, Villach and Linz and will use the research funds for five lighthouse projects such as photonics, reliable networked systems and power density. All of this plays a role in specific climate protection projects, such as e-mobility, the smart home or clean forms of energy, says SAL Managing Director Gerald Murauer.
As reported, the Linz site is working on the next generation of mobile communications, 6G, which is intended to enable wireless networking of the factories of the future and the transmission of large amounts of data in real time with a high level of reliability.
“The additional funds will further advance the expansion of research in Linz,” says Economics Minister Markus Achleitner. In Linz, further research facilities for industrial applications are to be acquired for 5G and 6G.
