Compared to the same month in 2021, crude steel production increased 14.3% and rolled steel production decreased 5%.
Crude steel production reached 446,900 tonnes last month.
For its part, that of rolled products reached 362,500 tons, 34.4% higher than that of April 2021 (269,600 tons), and 5% lower than that of May 2021 (381,700 tons).
At the sectoral level, it can be seen that agricultural machinery, the automotive industry, energy and construction continue to drive the demand for steel.
In some of the associated companies there is difficulty in acquiring essential raw materials not produced in the country for the steel industry, which affect the normal operation of industrial plants, the sector chamber said.
In addition, the sector continues to be concerned about the supply of natural gas and electricity, which are essential for the production process of crude and rolled steel.
Added to this are the diesel supply problems that transportation companies are experiencing, which affect the normal operation of steel production plants and their shipments to the entire value chain.
Primary iron production was 328,700 tons last May, 15.7% higher than that of April 2022 (284,100) and 9.3% higher than that of May 2021 (300,600).
That of cold-rolled flats was 99,500 tons in May, 36.3% higher than that of April 2022 (73,000) and 4.7% lower than that of May 2021 (104,400).
