LINZ. “There’s simply no substitute for personal contact,” says Gerald Horner from the Hochreiter Group at the career forum, which was held again at the Palais Kaufmännischer Verein in Linz after a break of more than two years due to the corona virus.
Numerous local employers, from the state of Upper Austria and the army to Sparkasse and Raiffeisenlandesbank Oberösterreich, presented themselves to hundreds of potential applicants. Small gifts such as chocolate and light pens were used to win the favor of the young people, many of whom were schoolchildren. Richard Werth from the Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce summed it up like this: “Everyone is looking for good new employees and we have to make sure that we pick them up early, even when they are at school.” In addition to the information offered, practical access was also very important at the career forum: visitors could, for example, have their hair done in the styling lounge of the Hallein fashion school.
There was also the opportunity to have professional application photos taken, and this was actively used – for example by the 15-year-old student Antonia, who would like to start an apprenticeship as a hairdresser.
