Consumer goods: Insolvency proceedings opened at condom manufacturer CPR

Insolvency proceedings are now under way at one of the largest condom manufacturers, CPR GmbH. The company from Sarstedt in Lower Saxony got into trouble and submitted a corresponding application in the spring.

In the meantime, the process has been opened, it said on Tuesday from the judiciary in neighboring Hildesheim. According to earlier reports, the company came under pressure over foreign exchange and settlement problems in its Russia business after the war against Ukraine began and sanctions took hold. According to its own information from mid-2020, CPR manufactured up to 200 million condoms a year. Of these, only about 15 percent remained in Germany, also as private labels from retailers. In France, there are said to have been condom hamster purchases during the corona lockdowns – according to CPR boss Michael Kesselring, this also happened in Germany at the beginning of the pandemic. The demand in the online business therefore initially also increased.
