After the floods in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, thousands of people and companies contact their insurers. There are more cases in North Rhine-Westphalia, but the more severe damage in Rhineland-Palatinate.
After the devastating flood disaster in July, German insurers now expect spending of over five billion euros.
The German Insurance Association (GDV) assumes that the total insured loss will be at the upper end of its estimate of EUR 4.5 billion to EUR 5.5 billion. That said GDV general manager Jörg Asmussen on Wednesday in Berlin.
“The companies have so far paid out advances of around 700 million euros to their customers,” said Asmussen. According to the association, private customers received a good 500 million euros for their damage, and almost 200 million euros were paid out for commercial damage.
The GDV emphasized that the companies wanted to compensate their customers quickly. “That is why the damage recording and quick first payments have priority at the moment,” said Asmussen. “It doesn’t take long to search for invoices and receipts; instead, there are flat-rate advance payments from insurers.”
In total, the insurers expect 190,000 claims reports – 160,000 from private customers and 30,000 from companies. In terms of numbers, by far the most damage occurred in North Rhine-Westphalia, with 135,000 cases and 400 million euros in advances to date. Citizens and companies in Rhineland-Palatinate have to cope with the proportionally more severe claims. According to GDV, 275 million euros have already been paid out there for a much lower number of 33,000 claims.
