Santiago López Osornio resigned, the official in charge of tariff segmentation

The now former official was one of Guzmán’s swords in the energy area, a sector of the Government where Kircherism has the top staff. The tariff segmentation system that he devised has not yet been applied.

That system was ready two weeks ago, but the crossfire in the ruling coalition prevented it from being executed in a timely manner. The delay was one of the causes that prompted the ejection of Guzmán from the Treasury.

The tariff segmentation seeks to eliminate energy subsidies to save some $15,000 million in public spending and to be able to offset the millions of dollars caused by the increase in energy imports.

The increase in electricity and natural gas rates is defined, but the implementation of the registry in which users must register to aspire to continue having the discount determined by the social rate is still undefined. Now it will be the new minister Silvina Batakis who will have the final word.

After being sworn in as the new head of Economy, Batakis spoke with the press at Balcarce 50 and assured that his administration will move towards a “fiscal balance” scheme as part of the continuity of the economic program outlined by President Alberto Fernández, and a federal perspective that allows growth in employment, exports, foreign exchange earnings and the revaluation of the local currency.

“I believe in fiscal balance and we have to move in that direction,” The minister affirmed minutes after the President took the oath of office in the White Room of the Government House, in an act in which governors, national and provincial officials, and union and business representatives were present.

In the first row were the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Sergio Massa, who held several meetings with Alberto Fernández over the weekend after Martín Guzmán resigned from the Palacio de Hacienda.

Minutes before the swearing-in, Massa participated in the enactment of the Tax Relief Law by the head of state, a project that was approved last Thursday in the Senate and was originally promoted by the head of the lower house.
