The US chip company Nvidia has presented strong figures for the second quarter. The profit went up by a whopping 282 percent.
The high demand for gaming equipment such as graphics cards and technology for data centers helped the US chip company Nvidia to have a surprisingly strong second quarter.
In the three months to the end of July, the company increased sales by 68 percent year-on-year to a record $ 6.5 billion, as it announced on Wednesday after the US market closed. The profit even rose by 282 percent to 2.4 billion dollars. After the hours of trading, the share rose by almost two percent.
The gaming division with the graphics card business increased revenues by 85 percent to $ 3.1 billion. The cards are not only in demand for video games, but also for the so-called mining of crypto systems such as Bitcoin – the generation of currency units by complex computer processes, known as “mining”. Nvidia’s data center business grew 35 percent to $ 2.4 billion. Both core areas thus achieved top marks. In the current quarter Nvidia expects revenues of approximately 6.8 billion dollars.
