Electromobility: E-cars: gasoline costs around 90 percent higher than electricity costs

The Check24 portal compared the gasoline and electricity costs for cars based on the annual average consumption and average annual kilometers. The discrepancy is huge.

According to calculations by the Check24 portal, the electricity costs for electric cars are considerably cheaper than the fuel costs of a conventional gasoline vehicle.

Based on the annual average consumption and average annual kilometers, the company put the annual average petrol costs at 1385 euros. The basis was the average price in June. The electricity for the same mileage of an e-car would therefore cost 730 euros, which means that the cost of petrol would be 90 percent higher.

After a low at the beginning of the Corona crisis, gasoline prices have risen sharply. The estimate is based on statistics from authorities and associations and the Munich company’s own calculations. The Federal Ministry of Transport puts the average consumption of cars in Germany at 7.8 liters per 100 kilometers. Check24 estimates the average power consumption of an e-car based on ADAC data and its own calculations at 20.7 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers. The portal puts the average mileage at 11,387 kilometers per year, based on data from its motor vehicle insurance customers.

However, according to a representative Yougov survey commissioned by Check24, cars with conventional engines are still much more popular than electric vehicles. Of the more than 2030 respondents, only ten percent of those who bought or plan to buy a car in the past twelve months said that they decided to buy an electric car or that they intend to do so.
