Air travel: British Airways cancels 10,300 more short-haul flights

It’s not just at German airports that things aren’t going smoothly at the moment. The UK is also having a hard time with high demand and a lack of staff.

British Airways is canceling 10,300 more short-haul flights by the end of October. The company wants to give its customers security and “protect as many of our holiday airlines as possible,” the airline announced on Wednesday.

The high demand in summer combined with a lack of staff is currently causing problems for many airlines.

In order to deal with the chaos in British air traffic, the British government relaxed the regulations for take-off and landing rights at airports shortly before the peak travel season. Airlines can use it to cancel connections and do without the so-called slots without having to fear losing the expensive take-off rights. However, the airlines have to announce their cancellations by Friday.

With the new cancellations, British Airways has canceled a total of 13 per cent of all flights this summer, according to the PA news agency. “While the majority of our flights are unaffected and the majority of customers are able to travel as planned, we don’t underestimate the impact this will have,” the company said. Affected customers could rebook their flights or get a refund.
