“The employees urgently need more money,” says Verdi Vice-President Christine Behle. The union demands 9.5 percent.
The Verdi union has rejected an initial offer by Lufthansa for around 20,000 Lufthansa ground staff as “insufficient”.
According to union information, the company had offered fixed amounts and a result-related component for a period of 18 months during the negotiations in Hamburg. The union demands 9.5 percent more money for a 12-month term.
“This offer does not come close to offsetting inflation, and given the current price increases, this would mean a significant loss of real wages for employees,” said lead negotiator and Verdi Vice-Chairwoman Christine Behle, according to a statement. In view of the overload, the high inflation and a wage cut for three years, significant wage increases are justified. “The employees urgently need more money and they need relief – for themselves and for the passengers.”
The union wants to provide special care for the lower wage groups for a period of twelve months. The salary increase must be at least 350 euros and, in addition, all hourly wages should differ significantly from the statutory minimum wage, which will rise to 12 euros an hour in October. It is about employees of Lufthansa AG Boden, Lufthansa Technik, Lufthansa Systems, Lufthansa Technik logistics services, Lufthansa Cargo and Lufthansa Service Gesellschaft.
Talks are scheduled to continue on August 3rd and 4th in Frankfurt.
