Highway 1 (A1) and Highway 29 (A29), which were cut due to a fire that broke out on Wednesday in Oliveira de Azemeis and spread to the municipalities of Estarreja and Albergaria a Velha, have already been reopened, according to the GNR. .
“The A29 reopened at 5:24 am and the A1 at 5:39 am,” a National Republican Guard (GNR) source told Lusa, adding that the road was not cut at 6:30 am due to fires.
Motorways A1, A29, A25 and additional route 2 (IC2) were cut due to a fire that broke out in the afternoon in Oliveira de Azemeis, also in the Aveiro region, and spread to neighboring municipalities.
Shortly after 00:00, traffic on the A25 and IC2 was restored.
According to social media posts, several drivers had to drive in the opposite direction to escape the fire near the intersection between the A25 and A1 in the Albergaria a Velha area.
The fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon at 12:54 pm at the site of Señora da Ribeira, in the parish of Pinheiro da Bemposta, in Oliveira de Azemeis, and due to wind instability, the flames reached Albergaria a Velha and Stare.
As of 6:30 a.m., 479 operatives were fighting the fire with the support of 151 ground vehicles, according to the website of the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Administration.
