Ten people were injured, one of them seriously, in a fire raging in Palmela, Setúbal district, a source in the District Relief Operations Command (CDOS) told Lusa.
Five of the victims were firefighters who fought the fire.
A source from the District Command for Relief Operations (CDOS) of Setúbal told Lusa that four of the five injured firefighters were taken to the San Bernardo Hospital in Setúbal.
Injured firefighters fought the fire on the active front in Ayres.
There are also reports of five other civilian casualties.
In statements to journalists at the end of that evening, the operational commander of the district said that the active front was directed towards Setúbal.
In the afternoon, the Palmela Social Center and the EDP holiday camp had to be evacuated, as well as the city of Irish and the Quinta do Anjou area.
The fire, which started this Wednesday in a wooded area near Palmela Castle, has spread by the end of the day and is heading towards the Serra da Arrábida. The fire currently has two active fronts (Quinta dos Anjos and Aires).
The alarm was announced at 12:04.
At 16:00, the fire also cut the Baixa de Palmela road that connects Palmela and Setúbal in both directions.
