Government fixes order with changes to IRS withholding tables

An order to amend the IRS tax tables to increase government pay was published on Tuesday with errors, and the government has now reissued the diploma with amendments.

“Being published inaccurately in Diário da República […] Order No. 8564-A / 2022 on approval of changes in retention tables […] with regard to income from work paid or provided from July 1, 2022, namely in tables iii – dependent work married to two owners, the same is reissued and the subsequent correction of the act “can be read in the statement published in addition to Diário da Republica on Thursday.

The declaration of correction is signed by the Secretary of State for Taxation, António Mendonsa Mendez.

In the revised table, a couple with a child with an income of up to €760 will end up with a withholding tax of 3.7% (not 0.8% as predicted in the previous table), and a couple with two children will have a rate of 1 % (not 0%) since July.

Amendments to the IRS retention tables were released on Tuesday and aim to account for public administration remuneration estimates.

The purpose of this new change to the retention tables is to prevent civil servants from moving from the general technical assistant career, who are eligible for the €47.55 start-up remuneration increase, to the next retention level and earning a monthly value. net income is lower than what they received before the increase.

To do this, the table works in two ways: on the one hand, it increases the retention limit from the current 754 to 760 euros, and on the other hand, it reduces the monthly retention rate.

The Decree-Law, which provides for the assessment of the remuneration of civil servants, was approved on Thursday by the Council of Ministers.

In addition to an increase of €47.55 (to €757.01) in salary upon entry into the position of Technical Assistant, the diploma also provides for an increase of €52 in the first two positions of the Senior Technician career (up to €1,059.59 and €1,268.04 respectively). ), in addition to an increase of around €400 for doctoral degrees (up to €1,632.82).
