According to Costa, 765,000 people will be less at risk of poverty in 2030, and exports will account for 53% of GDP.

The prime minister set this Thursday among Portugal’s 2030 main targets, which would include 23 billion euros, lift 765,000 people out of poverty and ensure that exports reach 53% of GDP.

These targets were handed over to António Costa in Fundão, Castelo Branco district, at the closing ceremony of the partnership agreement between the Portuguese government and the European Commission.

“This Portugal 2030 is not carte blanche,” the chief executive said, recalling the difficult negotiations that began (five days and four nights) at the European Council held in July 2020 in Brussels.

With the implementation of the new community support system, António Costa set as his goal “a country that is more competitive on the outside and more cohesive on the inside”.

“We have a very ambitious yet fundamental goal to fight inequality and promote a more inclusive society: lift 765,000 people out of poverty by 2030. This is a specific goal that concerns people’s lives,” the Prime Minister stressed.

Portugal’s other 2030 targets, according to António Costa, are to dedicate 3% of gross domestic product (GDP) to research and development, “two-thirds of private investment and one-third of public investment.”

On the climate front, the prime minister said Portugal should cut emissions by 55% by 2030. And already in 2026, from 60% to 80% of electricity consumed on the basis of renewable energy sources.

On the economic front, “the goal is to bring 53% of GDP into export value by the end of the decade, which means conquering more markets, increasing production and having more value-added goods and services,” added Antonio Costa. .
