Porto Editora makes 800 Braille works available on the WOOK platform

Starting today, 800 Braille titles created in partnership between Porto Editora and Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto are available on the WOOK online bookstore. The offer includes both classics and children’s literature and dictionaries.

Produced by Centro Professor Albuquerque e Castro (CPAC) – Braille Press in Santa Casa da Misericordia do Porto, the 800 titles will be sold through WOOK, Portugal’s largest online bookstore, and distributed across 21 categories, the statement said.

The offer includes classics of children’s literature such as “O Principezinho”, “A Fada Oriana”, “O Cavaleiro da Denmark”, classical and contemporary Portuguese authors such as “Novos Contos da Montanha” by Miguel Torga, “A Sibila”, Agustin Bessa Luis, “Os Cus de Judas” by Antonio Lobo Antunes, “Ensaio sobre a Cegueira” and “Memorial do Convento” by José Saramago, listed by source from the publisher.

Thus, adds the source, WOOK wants to “advertise the CPAC service” while “facilitating access to these titles through an online channel that can be consulted from all over the world, since until now it was only possible to buy titles directly. in the KPAK.

“The goal is to continually increase the number of available titles by updating the catalog offering through articulation with CPAC and the hundreds of publishers that WOOK works with,” adds the source.

“The average price of books is about 12.50 euros. The cost depends on several factors, including the size and number of volumes of the work. For example, readers will find children’s books for 3.18 euros or 6.36 euros with two volumes, but we also have large books that can go up to 40 euros,” he explained.

The statement said that CPAC was founded in 1956 and is exclusively engaged in the production of books for people with visual impairments.

All proceeds from the sale of Braille books are returned to CPAC and Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto.
