The average price at gas stations for the week of July 11-17 was 0.4 cents higher than the ERSE weekly average price for gasoline and 2.5 cents higher for diesel, as disclosed this Monday.
According to information from the Weekly Report on Surveillance of Sales Prices for the Population published by the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE), “relative to the previous week, it was found that the average sale price announced on the porticos, according to Balcão Único da Energia, this week was 0.4 cents/liter higher than the effective price for 95 regular gasoline and 2.5 cents/liter higher for regular diesel.”
Percentage-wise, “Gasoline 95 was listed at taps 0.2% above the effective price, and regular diesel fuel was listed at 1.2% above the effective price,” the same information says.
The effective price “is the average weekly price determined by ERSE and is the result of the sum of the following components: fuel prices in international comparison markets and related shipping, primary logistics, including in this part National Petroleum strategic and safety reserves, incremental costs with the inclusion of biofuels and retail component plus relevant taxes,” the regulator said in a statement.
Also relative to the previous week and in relation to discounted prices, which are average prices published by the Directorate General of Energy and Geology (DGEG), “95 plain gasoline showed a deviation of -2.3% from the effective price, and plain diesel fuel – 2 ,5%”.
Thus, in absolute terms, these estimates for regular gasoline-95 and regular diesel fuel are 4.7 cents/l lower than the corresponding effective prices.
It should be noted that the discounted price is calculated based on the prices reported by the gas stations, “weighted by the quantity sold in the last known period, taking into account the discounts practiced at the gas stations, such as fleet cards and others.”
According to the regulator, this week (from 18 to 24 July) “the effective pre-tax price is 1,161 euros/l for regular gasoline 95 and 1,229 euros/l for regular diesel fuel. The effective price is 1,989 euro/l and 1,921 euro/l, for plain petrol 95 and plain diesel, respectively.”
The government announced on July 1 that the Petroleum Product Tax (NPT) rebate, equivalent to a reduction in the VAT rate from 23% to 13%, would continue in July and August.
