Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa remembers Maria de Lourdes Modesto as “a great communicator”.

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, called on Tuesday Maria de Lourdes Modesto, a well-known name in Portuguese cuisine who popularized cooking on television, who died on Tuesday at the age of 92.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa expressed his condolences to the family, remembering Maria de Lourdes Modesto as “a great communicator”.

The head of state recalled that Maria de Lourdes Modesto “became a very friendly and popular figure on our television thanks to the cooking show she presented, which was in many ways innovative for that time.”

In the same note posted on the Presidency website, Marcelo also recalls that María de Lures was awarded the Order of Merit in 2004 by then President Jorge Sampaio.
