convene a public hearing for the increase of Aguas Bonaerenses

ABSA submitted to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Services of the province of Buenos Aires the requirement to update the value of 1,000 liters of water from the current $11.10 to $16.12, whose measure (1 cubic meter) is contemplated for billing of water and sewage services in 92 locations in the province of Buenos Aires.

How much could the bill be?

The request proposes a staggered recomposition of the values of the module and the cubic meter to be applied in three tranches: 20% ($13.32); 10% ($14.65); and another 10% ($16.12), which is reflected in the final value of the measurement units.

It was indicated from Aguas Bonaerenses that, at present, the average bill for water and sewage services is $796 and it was stated that, strictly speaking, “this means for a typical family an estimated daily cost of $6.50 per member” .

“With the third tranche of the update applied, the average bill will be $1,152, and the daily cost per member of a typical family will be $9.60“, was added.

In addition, it was stated that the “measure seeks to appease the rate delay that ABSA is experiencing today, which puts at risk the continuity of the provision of essential services to more than 2,500,000 inhabitants of the provincial territory.”

It was highlighted that “by virtue of not generating an additional burden on society in the midst of the pandemic scenario imposed by the global advance of Covid-19, this call is made after three and a half years in which no modified the tariff table”.

From the company it was underlined that “the aforementioned period without rate review meant an important effort to sustain the provision of water and sewage services.” “During that time, there was a marked increase in costs, ranging from the dollarization of essential supplies and chemicals for the purification and treatment of effluents, energy, salaries, among others. This scenario generates an essential and urgent rate recomposition,” as reported.

However, ABSA stressed that “the support provided by the provincial government allowed continuity and improvement in the provision of services”, and it was detailed that the current administration “has optimized the operation of ABSA, promoting the development of works without precedent since the beginning of 2020 that will improve the quality of life of its beneficiaries”.
