“Imports increased 44.6% compared to the same month of the previous year as a result of a 26.4% rise in prices and a 14.6% rise in quantities,” INDEC said.
Economists agree that the Argentine trade balance could be affected in the second half of the year by energy imports and other local factors.
In the first half of 2022, the trade balance was US$3,093 million. If the prices had been the same as in the first half of 2021, the trade balance would have been US$2,112 million. In other words, the improvement in prices had a net effect of US$981 million, according to data from the economist Nadin Argañaraz.

Total imports grew in the semester by US$12,685 million. 33% of the increase was explained by Fuels and lubricants (Plus US$4,246 million)15% for Intermediate goods from the chemical industries (US$1,944 million), 10% for capital goods in machinery, apparatus and electrical material (US$1,200 million) and 9.5% for parts and accessories for capital goods machinery and electrical material (US$1.2 billion).
