BP instead of Shell: Stiglechner turns around

The Stiglechner family business will be 100 years old next year. Just in time for the anniversary, no stone is left unturned at the Linz petroleum trader: the Julius Stiglechner Group is ending decades of cooperation with Shell and is switching to BP. All Shell filling stations in Linz will be supplied and converted by BP by the end of 2023, the company announced in a broadcast yesterday, Thursday.

“We have had a partnership with Shell since 1956, but have now decided to let the contract expire in January,” says company boss Elsa Dutzler-Stiglechner in an interview with the OÖNachrichten. The reason given is that BP made a “better offer” without giving details.

Along with the Welser Doppler Group, Stiglechner is one of two large family companies in the mineral oil trade. The petrol station network of the traditional Linz company includes 161 locations in Austria. Of these, 107 are Shell stations, 35 run under the IQ brand. In addition, there is a cooperation with Eni with 18 locations. The Stiglechner Group has around 700 employees. IQ and Eni locations continued to run normally, it is said.

Switched to the competition

From the cooperation with BP, Dutzler-Stiglechner not only hopes for “growth in the area”, but also for new offers, for example with e-charging stations. The IQ fuel card system and the BP Routex card are to be used at the converted petrol stations, as is the Payback program.

BP is expanding its petrol station network in Austria to more than 300 locations through the cooperation, bringing it closer to market leader Eni (321). Spicy: The Brits only ended their 20-year sales partnership with Doppler about a year ago. (Rome)
