Apprentices and employers often have different ideas. This is the result of a current survey by the consulting firm Deloitte, in which around 100 local companies and 100 apprentices were questioned.
The increasing shortage of workers and skilled workers is also a constant issue for domestic companies. According to Deloitte, training young people in their own company is an effective solution. Companies have long since recognized this.
“Young people differ from older employees in terms of their values and attitudes. Companies have to specifically address the needs of young employees in order to score points as an attractive employer.” says Elisa Aichinger from Deloitte.
Interest and motivation on the part of young people are the most important recruitment criteria for most companies. In order to be attractive to future apprentices, companies most often advertise with the secure future prospects of the profession and with a guaranteed job post-apprenticeship.
For the young people surveyed, however, a collegial atmosphere and meaningful work are the top priorities when choosing an apprenticeship.
“Practicing a job changes your perspective,” says Aichinger. In practice, good teamwork is more important than the monetary aspects. Taster days, internships or similar initiatives would help to convey and familiarize potential apprentices with the corporate culture and the working atmosphere at an early stage.
