The report concluded that in the first two weeks of the month, food increased 5%; beverages, 5.1%; personal care products, 8.4%; and cleaning, 4.9%.
The percentages are of great concern because local businesses and independent chains represent almost 70% of total sales of basic products.
Changes in consumption due to the crisis
According to private consultants, the currency crisis and that it has repercussions on prices generated that in the last month 75% of Argentines have adjusted.
Also, 65% changed the way they shop for household products – switching brands, ditching categories, or shopping elsewhere.
In this sense, the consumption of beef fell to 47 kilos per inhabitant this year, its historical minimum, when a decade ago it was 57 kilos and in 2020 it was 50.
In the first half of July, supermarkets, stores and kiosks received lists with an increase of up to 35% and limits were established on the delivery of oil, sugar and toilet paper.
In June, the average ticket in a local business was $1,558, which represents an increase of more than 50% compared to the same month of the previous year ($1,033).
The dollar closed hot week
The parallel dollar increased $1 this Friday to $338, a new nominal record at the close, after trading above $340 for most of the day.
In this way, it accumulated a fierce advance of 15.4% throughout a frenetic week and extremely high exchange rate speculation.
