The meeting was part of Batakis’s trip to the United States, whose main objectives are that his interlocutors “listen and know how the new official thinks”, in addition to presenting the action guidelines that the Argentine Government will take in economic matters, said this Tomorrow to Télam, Ambassador Argüello.
Georgieva was very interested in meeting the new Argentine minister, since “he had planned to take vacations this week” and decided to postpone them in order to receive Batakis, sources from the multilateral organization told Télam.
In addition to the meeting with the Managing Director of the IMF, Batakis had a working lunch with Ilan Goldfajn, director of the multilateral organization for the Western Hemisphere; Luis Cubeddu, head of the Mission for Argentina; and Julie Kozack, deputy director of the Western Hemisphere Department, who will become deputy director of the Fund’s European Department in September.
Since he joined the IMF as director of the Western Department in January of this year, Goldfajn, a Brazilian economist who was head of the Central Bank of his country, began to take more and more control of the Argentine case.

Sources close to IMF officials indicated that Kozack’s imminent departure will reinforce this course of action, and “Goldfajn will take more and more control of the Argentine case” and will be guided by the contribution of Cubeddú, who knows the Argentine cloth like few others.
Cubeddu, for his part, “would continue in his position, and is even a candidate to succeed Kozack,” sources linked to the issue told Télam.

After the meeting with the directors of the IMF, Batakis has a meeting scheduled at the World Bank headquarters, where he will meet with the Director General of Operations, Axel Von Trotsenburg.
