Small farmers in Alvados, Porto de Mos, are in despair from attacks by wild boars, which are destroying their crops, especially corn, and some are leaving their fields abandoned.

Animals prefer ears that are still forming. Wild boars spend the day in the bush and attack the crops at night, in groups or singly, “and closer and closer to the houses they go there as if it were all theirs,” explained Carlos Carvalho, adding that the parish council, council and Serras de Aire e Candeiros Natural Park “they know and do nothing”. Cultivated fields are located in valleys, on fertile and moist lands that do not need irrigation.
