Borealis sale: Farmers’ union demands production guarantee

In a press release, the farmers’ association demands a production guarantee in the event of a sale. All essential parts of the value chain would have to be kept in domestic or European hands in the event of a sale. In addition, in the event of a gas supply stop, agriculture and the food industry should be classified as systemically important.

After the Upper Austrian Farmers’ Association initially held back, there are now concerns about the security of being able to produce food. As a representative of farmers’ interests, you share the skepticism of the agricultural sector about the sale to Agrofert.

“The self-sufficiency of food must not be jeopardized under any circumstances,” says the director of the farmers’ association, Wolfgang Wallner. Therefore, attempts are being made to prevent the Linz site from being switched to so-called “swing production” in the event of a sale, whereby the plant would be shut down in times of low fertilizer prices.
