Portugal recorded 29,277 new Covid-19 cases in the last week (July 19-25), a decrease of 6,324 from the previous week. The number of deaths also decreased, with the total death toll standing at 72, down 38 from last week.
Hospitalizations were also down from last week, with a total of 833 ward admissions (down 196) and 54 intensive care unit admissions (up five).
According to the bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS), the seven-day incidence on Monday was 284 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, recording an 18% decrease compared to the previous week, and the transmissibility index (Rt) of the coronavirus fell to 0.86.
There were 11,882 new cases in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, down 3,344 from the previous week. 23 people died from Covid-19, which is 22 less than in the previously recorded period.
There were 6,624 new infections in the North, 1,780 fewer than before, 17 deaths plus one. In the Central region, 4424 cases (minus 518) and 10 deaths (minus 13) were registered.
The Alentejo had 1,532 positive cases (minus 212) and four deaths (minus nine), while the Algarve had 2,148 SARS-CoV-2 infections (minus 445) and 10 deaths (plus two).
The Autonomous Region of Madeira has recorded another 1,015 new Covid-19 cases (162 more) and seven deaths (four more). In the Azores, 1,652 people tested positive (minus 187) and one person died (minus one).
