Transport: Eurobike bicycle fair shows innovations – focus on cargo bikes

Not just cargo bikes – the bicycle industry is booming in times of the corona pandemic. For the time being, Eurobike will be showing innovations for the last time on Lake Constance – before the trade fair moves to Frankfurt.

Lighter bikes, cargo bikes and electric drives: after a corona-related break last year, the Eurobike trade fair in Friedrichshafen will again be showing innovations in the bicycle industry from September 1st to 4th.

630 exhibitors from 42 countries have registered, said Eurobike project manager Dirk Heidrich at a press conference on the presentation of new products on Thursday in Friedrichshafen. More than 1400 exhibitors were registered for the 2019 edition of the Bicycle Fair.

In view of the pandemic, one is still “very satisfied” with the response, said the managing director of Messe Friedrichshafen, Klaus Wellmann. For the time being, the Eurobike will take place on Lake Constance for the last time this year: next year the fair will move to Frankfurt.

According to the organizers, cargo bikes will play a special role at Eurobike. The market in Germany is booming thanks to financial support: around 103,000 cargo bikes were sold in Germany in 2020, a good three quarters of them with an electric drive, estimates the two-wheel industry association. This corresponds to a growth of around 35 percent compared to the previous year.
