A pregnant woman, forced to travel more than 100 km, arrived at the Santarém hospital with a dead baby in her stomach.

A woman more than 38 weeks pregnant, having learned that the maternity ward of the de Abrantes hospital was closed, went to the Santarem hospital, where she was admitted with a dead fetus in her stomach.

To CMThe Santarém hospital confirmed that the woman was admitted to the obstetric emergency room, but after being examined by the medical team, she was diagnosed with fetal death in the uterus, which means that the fetus was already dead in the mother’s abdomen.

A pregnant woman living in Vila de Rei had to travel over 100 km to reach the hospital in Santarém. The case came after the closure of the maternity hospital at the Hospital de Abrantes, which had already launched an investigation after the 41-year-old woman lost her baby.

The distance between Vila de Rei and Hospital de Abrantes is 30.6 km, about 28 minutes, and this will be the nearest hospital to your residence. Since the maternity hospital was closed, the woman had to travel over 100 km in 1 hour and 40 minutes to reach the Santarém hospital.
