Daimler is sending more employees on short-time work again. Works in Germany and Hungary are affected. The corona crisis is not the reason.
In view of the ongoing chip crisis, the car manufacturer Daimler is extending short-time working again at several of its locations next week.
In the Mercedes plants in Bremen, Rastatt, as well as in Kecskemét, Hungary, and partly in Sindelfingen, production will come to a standstill in the new week, the group announced on Friday upon request. This week the machines were already inactive in Bremen and in parts of the Sindelfingen plant. Daimler does not provide any information on the question of how many employees will be affected by the production stops this week and next. The “Badische Tagblatt” reported on the new short-time work plans.
More than 12,000 people are employed in the Bremen plant, around 6,500 in Rastatt, around 4,700 in Kecskemét and 25,000 in Sindelfingen. Many employees at these four locations had repeatedly been exposed to production stops in the past few months. The background to this are problems with the replenishment of electronic chips, which also force other car companies to interrupt production.
Mainly the C-Class and the GLC SUV are built in Bremen, the B-Class in Kecskemét and the A-Class in Rastatt, for example. In addition to the E-Class, the S-Class and its electric counterpart EQS also roll off the assembly line in Sindelfingen. The production of the latter two profitable models has mostly continued unrestricted recently, which should also be the case in the coming week.
