Former TVI CIO to be Medina’s adviser on minister’s salary

Finance Minister Fernando Medina invited Sergio Figueireda, former director of information for TVI, to advise on “specialized strategic advice.”

According to the newspaper BusinessFernando Medina’s goal is for the journalist to support him in the “development, implementation and monitoring of public policies, including consultations with stakeholders in the Portuguese economy, and the evaluation and monitoring of these same policies.”

The authorization to conclude a contract through a direct agreement – due to the “specificity of the consulting needs in question” – was published this Monday in Diário da República.

The contract, which was signed by Sergio Figueiredo, will be valid for two years, and, according to a source in the ministry Businesswill have remuneration “equivalent to and limited to the base salary of the Minister of Finance”, which is in line with 4767 euros.

Sergio Figueiredo is currently a freelance consultant, but was already the director of Diário Económico, the newspaper Negócios, as well as director of information for TVI.

Fernando Medina was a commentator on TVI before being appointed chief executive of Antonio Costa for five years, during which Sergio Figueiredo was the channel’s chief information officer.

“I am required to become familiar with the information available, which, protected by the fact that it is not in the day-to-day management of the government and the ministry, has the daily opportunity to listen to the relevant stakeholders,” explains Sergio Figueiredo Business.
