They request information from the US for a Customs complaint of overinvoicing

The information requested is the date of creation, the corporate structure, the corporate purpose, the designation, the acceptance of positions and the activities for which it is authorized to operate, among others. In that same sense, complementary measures were issued, such as the seizure of the merchandise, the carrying out of technical reports, the blocking of the cuit of the company in question and the prohibition of departure from the province and the country of those involved.

Fraudulent triangulation is an operation that is used to make a foreign exchange gap business. An Argentine company imports overinvoiced merchandise by having it invoiced beforehand by a ghost firm located in a third country. The difference between the real price of the merchandise and the one that is declared, are dollars that are obtained at the official exchange rate and for which you can have enormous profits by liquidating them in the parallel markets. In this particular case, about $1.5 million that could easily represent an illicit gain of more than $300 million.

Customs sources clarified: “Many foreign trade operations are carried out through triangulation, it is usual and legal. The problem appears when there are cases of over-invoicing or under-invoicing”. In that sense, they pointed out that there is a list of more than 13,000 operations carried out by some 722 companies that will be audited.

Last week, Massa announced the opening of a registry so that in the next 60 days, companies that have made a “mistake” ratify their positions before Customs. After that period, he anticipated: “We are going to make the relevant complaints in the local Justice and in the Anti-Money Laundering Unit of the United States since banks from that country were used.”

The bug that Scope was able to access is the first on that line, but probably not the only one. The illegal maneuver that was denounced by the Customs before the justice on July 21, consisted of importing supposed technological material to the Special Customs Area of Tierra del Fuego, but in reality it was simple empty boxes or “technological garbage”, casings and some elements such as coolers, to simulate that a real product was being shipped.

The Economy Minister also ordered the implementation of a traceability system for foreign trade. The objective is to have greater control and transparency in the use of foreign currency for imports. “We have detected situations of abuse by companies through triangulation mechanisms, with under-invoicing of exports and over-invoicing of imports. This is how they appropriated the dollars that small and medium-sized companies ask for machines, ”he said at his inaugural conference.
