Bon on the cell phone: In Utrecht in the Aldi test branch it has been a reality for a long time. In Germany, too, the branches should now be able to do without cash registers. Perhaps Aldi will start the digital race to catch up just in time.
The first test came even before Sinanudin Omerhodzic started his actual job. Aldi Nord sent the new IT manager “on the tile” for training, i.e. in one of the around 5,300 branches worldwide. His tasks there: moving pallets, arranging shelves and exchanging boxes. Unusual work for the computer scientist. “When I sat at the cash register for the first time, there was a huge queue within two minutes. There were a few beads of sweat on your forehead,” recalls the 45-year-old.
