voestalpine invests 100 million euros

As already reported, the Linz-based steel and technology group voestalpine is expanding the production of high-strength steel for the automotive industry: the company will invest around 100 million euros in the modernization of the hot-dip galvanizing plant in Linz by 2027. This means that the quantity of high-strength steels can be “significantly increased”, it said yesterday.

The first construction measures will start in August. The technological ramp-up is scheduled for 2025/26. With the investment, “all important types of steel that are mainly used in the premium automotive industry could be produced in the future”. The quality requirements of the automotive industry include “best crash performance with the greatest possible weight savings”.

“With the expansion, higher strength, improved ductility and larger dimensions will be achieved for cold strip and hot-dip galvanized strip in the future,” explained Hubert Zajicek, head of the Steel Division and member of the Management Board.
