Thrifty customers: Lidl throws many non-food products out of the range

The discounters Lidl and Aldi have been suffering from falling purchasing power and thrifty customers for months. Products from the non-food range in particular hardly arouse any interest. A large part should therefore disappear from the shelves in the coming years.

Discounters and supermarkets have long since stopped selling just groceries. Tools, decorative items and clothing fill the shelves, but the discounter Lidl should look different next year. Many of these items are disappearing from the range – the customers are said to be to blame for this.

The purchasing power of customers is falling significantly

Discounter Lidl not only sells groceries and drugstore items, but also various goods from the so-called non-food area. This includes the sometimes weekly changing offers of tools, clothing, household goods and electronics, which can also be found in the online range of the discounter. But according to the Lebensmittelzeitung, this should largely be the end of next year. And that is indirectly due to the customers.

Because actually the non-food offer is really profitable for the discounter giant. In addition to the fresh baking stations in the shops, it is one of the particularly lucrative sales areas. But lately there have been problems. First it was the interrupted supply chains and the resulting major delivery problems, now it’s the thrifty customers.

Lidl and Aldi affected by falling purchasing power

Because the business with articles with a price of more than 20 euros has collapsed in the past few weeks and months. The discounter suspects that this is due to the fear of ever-increasing energy costs – customers are becoming more economical.

Lidl pulls the ripcord: For 2023, significantly less was ordered from the non-food sector, writes the Lebensmittelzeitung. Lidl is not alone in this, Aldi is also posting significant declines in the sale of the goods on offer.
