The fire, which has been raging since Saturday evening in the Serra do Marão, in Vila Real, is being fought by seven air assets, according to Civil Protection, with the number of ground assets rising to 138 operational and 37 ground assets.
As reported on the website of the National Office for Emergency Situations and Civil Protection (ANEPC), the fire originated in a forested area (a forest area of at least 0.5 hectares and more than 10% coverage).
According to ANEPC, the fire in Campea parish, municipality of Vila Real, broke out on Saturday at 22:37.
After contacting Lusa, a source from Vila Real’s District Command for Relief Operations (CDOS) sent more information about the fire for later, and a command center was set up on the ground.
