Work is in full swing: IT experts from the group and external companies have been working on restoring all internal systems from the backup copies for about a week. After the attack on the Canadian parent company of the drive manufacturer – the OÖN reported – the servers in Gunskirchen and other production plants had been shut down in the meantime.
The restart process has now been started, the company said today, Tuesday. This applies to the drive plant in Gunskirchen as well as the plants in Valcourt (Canada), Rovaniemi (Finland) and Sturtevant (USA). The other manufacturing facilities in Spruce Pine (USA) and Mexico plan to gradually resume operations over the course of the week.
The cause of the attack is now clear: BRP confirms that the malware was smuggled in via a third party. The company did not provide any further information when asked. Customer data should not have been affected by the attack.
The group is also not yet saying anything about the extent of the damage caused by the cyber attack. BRP is said to have put in place a recovery plan to minimize the financial impact. However, there should be no impact on the financial forecast at the end of the year.
In the past year (at the end of January) the plant in Gunskirchen had a turnover of 980 million euros with around 1700 employees. With 20,000 employees worldwide, BRP has a turnover of around 5.8 billion euros.
