possible modifications to the soybean dollar and other measures to accelerate the liquidation

In statements made to Télam Radio, Bahillo pointed out that today’s meeting is part of “the work tables” agreed upon in Friday’s dialogue, aimed at “advance agreements and consensus”.

The idea, continued the official, is, based on these understandings, “to continue taking these measures and implementing them, to respond to these sectors and so that they can develop their full productive potential.”

In this context, Bahillo stressed that it is in the Government’s interest that they be able to “quickly provide answers and create the conditions (for this to occur), since these productive sectors are very important, not only because of what they mean for the economy as a whole economic movement because of the dynamism they give to it in the generation of foreign currency, which is so important for our country, but also because of everything they mean for economic life in the interior of the country”.

According to the Secretary in advance this morning, there will be talk of increasing meat production, opening new markets, boosting regional economies, biofuel and guaranteeing inputs for planting. An improvement to the settlement system is also planned.

Soybean dollar, retentions and devaluation

The Secretary of Agriculture of the Nation, at the same time, recognized that the soybean dollar did not work as an incentive in its implementation because “there was not much liquidation with this system.” After Friday’s meeting between Sergio Massa and representatives of the Liaison Table, the national official specified that the soybean dollar was “a subject that was developed quite a lot in the meeting”.

According to Carlos Achetoni, President of the Agrarian Federation, the main problem for the settlement is the exchange rate gap. “What we must do is reduce it, not only for soybeans, but for all productions.” Meanwhile, he talked about why the system didn’t work: “$240 is what they offer per soybean dollar as the great panacea. $50 is between the blue dollar and this.”

In relation to the retentionsone of the issues that generates the most conflict with the fieldBahillo assured that there will be no change in the withholding scheme. “We all understand that the withholdings are going to be sustained, because it is impossible to modify the scheme with the situation of the public accounts”, he explained.

Finally, the Secretary of Agriculture ruled out that the government can do a devaluation. “The only thing it generates is to deepen poverty and aggravate the economic situation of the most vulnerable sectors. That’s not the way outWe were clear on that,” he stressed.
