At least 500,000 pumps are to be installed annually by 2024. But according to experts, installation is often out of the question. Why is that?
From the point of view of numerous experts, one obstacle to the faster expansion of heat pumps is residential buildings without energy-related refurbishment. In a survey of hundreds of energy consultants by the German Energy Agency (Dena), more than 70 percent of those surveyed stated that the installation of a heat pump was regularly, often or even very often not an option in their consultations due to the structural condition of the building. The worse a building is insulated, the higher the flow temperatures in the heating system and the more difficult it is for the pump. Dena announced this on Thursday.
From the point of view of the experts, other obstacles are supply bottlenecks, the lack of qualifications for heat pumps in the trade or noise protection regulations.
Around 154,000 heat pumps were installed in 2021
According to Dena, around 154,000 heat pumps were installed in Germany last year. That was almost 30 percent more than the year before. According to Dena, the systems now have the largest share of all installed heating systems, especially in new buildings. Despite the obstacles, there are numerous installation options in existing buildings.
In view of the gas crisis, the federal government wants to accelerate the move away from fossil heating systems and has launched an expansion offensive for heat pumps. According to this, at least 500,000 pumps are to be installed annually by 2024. The goal is six million installed systems by 2030.
