The export of dairy products grew 36.9% in volume in the first semester

In the first semester, dairy products were exported for US$ 646 million, implying a year-on-year increase of 36.9%.

Thus, the sector’s foreign currency income in 2022 registered an increase of US$ 349 million compared to the first half of 2019, and was positioned slightly below the historical maximums of 2014, when US$ 697 million entered.

The growth is “enormous” compared to the other complexes that make up the Manufactures of Agricultural Origin (MOA), said the BCR.

In the first six months of 2019, the dairy sector had grown 34% and since then it showed some variability in its increases, “but in the first half of the current year it showed a rapid escalation, growing 22.5%, driving the MOAs up,” he remarked. .

Another factor that explains the rise in foreign sales of dairy products is the international price of powdered milk.

It is expected that the value of this product at a global level will continue to decline, but it would also remain with figures above the averages of the last five years.

The second week of July, whole milk powder registered a drop in the Futures Market, trading in August below US$ 3,800 per ton, a value that would be maintained in the projections for the coming months, estimated the Rosario Stock Exchange.

For the Argentine sector, the local production costs of this product increased at a strong rate this semester, mainly due to the upward trend of international commodities in recent months.

The value of a liter of milk in June improved by around 5%, equaling the increase in May, and in absolute values, it increased from $45.52 to $47.81, with a year-on-year variation of 52.6%.

The entity also stated that, according to the OECD, the dairy sector is expected to have the greatest expansion until 2031, with a growth in world supply of 23%, related in turn to the rise in food prices.
