Police called after riots outside Angolan consulate in Lisbon

Early on Wednesday morning in Lisbon, in front of the Consulate General of Angola in Lisbon, passions and some contempt reigned.

A group of protesters gathered in front of a building located in Alcantara and said that voters were not allowed to vote remotely in the elections held this Wednesday in Angola.

The police were called even because after the closing of the polling stations, some protesters became agitated and even lay on the floor, refusing to leave the place of protest. Some of those involved also demanded to be received by the Consul General, Ambassador Vicencia Morais de Brito.

According to CMdespite some tension, no arrests were made.

The general elections in Angola were the first in which Angolans abroad were able to vote. In Portugal, voting took place at the Angolan consulates in Lisbon and Porto. 7,600 people registered to vote, the vast majority in Lisbon.
