Thanks to positive economic news from Germany and China, the Dax continued the gains of the previous day on Thursday. The leading German index rose by 0.90 percent to 13,338.73 points at the start of trading.

The MDax of medium-sized companies rose in early trading by 0.93 percent to 26,300.19 points. The Eurozone leading index EuroStoxx 50 gained 0.8 percent.

Stockbrokers pointed out that the German economy had surprisingly grown somewhat in the second quarter. Gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.1 percent compared to the previous quarter. In an initial estimate, the Federal Statistical Office assumed that economic output would stagnate. In addition, China announced further billions in aid to stabilize the country’s flagging economy.

Markets, meanwhile, are anxiously awaiting impressions from the multi-day Federal Reserve Conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, which begins on Thursday. The focus is on a speech by Fed Chair Jerome Powell, which is on Friday’s agenda.
