Germans see inflation as the biggest problem

Germans see inflation and rising living costs as the biggest problems Germany is currently facing. This was the result of a survey as part of the Statista Global Consumer Survey.

About half of all people surveyed in the Federal Republic identified the current price increases as the most difficult hurdle for the country. In their eyes, these are even more important than, for example, the lack of affordable housing (40 percent) and climate change (39 percent). As the chart shows, both of these challenges outweighed the increase in costs last year.

In 2019, even before the pandemic and energy crisis, 49 percent of those surveyed considered immigration to be the biggest problem. In the face of the crises that followed, however, immigration has lost much of its importance – in 2022 only 32 percent see immigration as Germany’s main problem.

Terrorism doesn’t play a big role at the moment

The proportion of survey participants who consider terrorism to be a significant problem has also fallen sharply. Since 2019, the proportion has fallen from 29 to 15 percent.

Survey: Germans see inflation as the biggest problem

On the other hand, the fact that Germany has a problem with valid civil rights has gained in importance in the perception of those surveyed. Today, around 20 percent think that the rights of citizens are in danger – five percentage points more than in 2019. The restrictions in connection with the corona crisis, which caused great displeasure among many Germans, are probably responsible for this.
