The field settled just .1 billion in the month and the soybean dollar ends this week

So far, just over 20 million tons of soybeans from the 2022 harvest remain to be sold and marketing is progressing very slowly. Precisely, the Government wants these grains to be sold with greater agility so that in the short term there is an income of more than US$4,000 million dollars. The meetings held by the Secretary of Agriculture, Juan José Bahillo, and his technical team with the Liaison Table did not bear fruit either, or rather did not lead to an agreement that conforms to all the legs of the agricultural sector.

In general in recent weeks the Government put on the table the option that the soybean dollartoday stipulated so that 30% of sales can be converted to the value of the savings dollar and the remaining 70% deposited in an account that adjusts with the official dollar, can be worn up to 50/50. Something that was flatly ruled out by the entities that represent agricultural producers. The technicians of the Liaison Table and their leaders explained to whoever wanted to hear that the only way to tempt the producers was with a considerable reduction for a certain time of the withholdings on the oilseed, which today is taxed at 33%.

The truth is that the possibility of the Government agreeing to a temporary reduction in withholdings today seems very remote. First from the collection point of view, that is, they cannot do without even a single dollar that enters through withholdings. On the other hand, for a political or rather ideological issue. The question posed by the economic team is how a possible drop in withholdings can impact social sentiment when electricity, gas and water rates are being updated in parallel.

On the other hand, from the agro-export companies they propose fiscal incentives but the truth is that these benefits would not reach the agricultural producers directly, who ultimately have in their hands the decision to sell the grains.

Lastly, next September the so-called soybean pre-season begins and, in some way, a greater speeding up of sales of the oilseed is expected because the farmers who need it will sell grain to finance themselves for the next season. Meanwhile, Massa’s economic team is trying to get out of the impasse where the negotiation with the agricultural entities was located to unlock soybean sales. The story remains open.
