The Rewe subsidiary DER Touristik and the Rostock holding Deutsche Seereederei are entering into a joint venture. Their common focus lies in the hotel industry.
The Rewe Group is pushing its tourism business forward, focusing primarily on domestic vacation spots.
The Rewe subsidiary DER Touristik founded a joint venture with the Rostock holding Deutsche Seereederei, which focuses on the hotel industry. As the company announced on Monday, both shareholders each hold 50 percent of the new company DR Hospitality. The Deutsche Seerederei brings 16 hotels as brands and assets into the new company, from the Rewe or DER side money comes.
The hotels have 14 locations in Germany, including the Hotel Neptun in Warnemünde and the Hamburg Hotel Louis C. Jacob. The brands A-ROSA and aja are also part of it, for example aja has wellness hotels in Travemünde and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In addition, two hotels in Vienna and Zurich were brought into the joint venture. The hotels have a total of 1555 employees, and the new company with its administrative headquarters in Hamburg is responsible for operation and marketing.
“We see a strong trend towards holiday destinations in Europe that are easily accessible by train, bus and your own vehicle,” said Rewe boss Lionel Souque. “These more sustainable trips are a market with great growth potential.” Horst Rahe from Deutsche Seereederei was convinced that he had found an “experienced and financially strong partner” with whom one could become a leading company in the environmentally friendly hospitality and leisure sector in Europe more quickly.
