Shortage of semiconductors as a brake for Pierer Mobility

The motorcycle manufacturer Pierer Mobility (KTM, GasGas, Husqvarna) assesses the first half of the year with mixed feelings. Although sales increased by 7.1 percent to 1.1 billion euros compared to the same period of the previous year, the operating result (EBIT) fell by 9.6 percent to 92.8 million euros.

“Basically, we are satisfied with the performance, but it could have been better,” says CFO Viktor Sigl. He attributes the decline in profits to two factors: On the one hand, more street motorcycles are traditionally sold with lower margins in the first half of the year. This will change in the second half of the year, when more off-road bikes will be sold.

On the other hand, there is still a shortage of semiconductors on the market. As a result, motorcycles and e-bicycles could not be fully built and would have to be delivered to retailers with a delay. Sales at Pierer Mobility fell by 7.1 percent to 163,334 units in the first half of the year. In addition, 51,417 e-bikes and conventional bikes were sold.

100 new employees wanted

For the year as a whole, the leading company expects sales to increase by between ten and 15 percent and an EBIT margin of eight to ten percent. Business is picking up, especially in the United States. The workforce grew by 768 to 5656 employees, 100 positions are vacant.
