In the future, this will appear under the name “Greiner Recycling doo”. There was no information about the purchase price.
ALWAG, based in Nova Gajdobra, produces PET flakes from recycled drinking bottles, which are used as raw materials for new packaging. Production is to be increased in the coming years from the current 4,000 to up to 7,000 tons per year. Existing customers will continue to be supplied, the additional quantity should go to Greiner Packaging. As a first step, Greiner plans to invest in the infrastructure and in ISO certifications as well as to recruit additional employees.
Until now, Greiner has bought recycling material externally. Greiner Packaging’s CEO, Manfred Stanek, explained that the takeover expands the know-how in the area of recycling and the intention is to use this to successively improve the life cycle of their own products. For CEO Axel Kühner, the purchase is “an important step on the way to a sustainable circular economy at Greiner”.
