López Obrador’s promise to fight inflation

“We are going to make some adjustments to continue releasing funds for development, but not for salaries, there are no layoffs,” he said. “Austerity in the federal government will follow,” he said.

In the National Palace, President López Obrador assured that he will continue the austerity policy and an example of this is that in the Office of the President there have been savings of more than 3 billion pesos.

“I had a budget of 3.6 billion, this year it is 600, 3 billion less, it will no longer increase and we are going to continue with austerity, saving, saving, saving to be able to finance development, without debt, without indebtedness” , he claimed.

Regarding these possible cuts, López Obrador recalled that when he took office, the Office of the Presidency had an assigned budget of 3,600 million pesos and this year it is only 600 million. “We are going to continue with austerity; saving, saving, saving, saving, saving to be able to finance development without debt, without indebtedness”, he added.

He even announced that “an increase in budgets for the Welfare Program is being considered. In the case of older adults, it is an increase of a little more than 25% in pensions.”

Finally, López Obrador indicated that in the 2023 Economic Package, 34 projects are contemplated by the Federal Electricity Commission, of which 16 have to do with the modernization of hydroelectric plants, which includes the purchase of turbines and new equipment. On Thursday, it will seek approval.
