It can load almost 24,000 standard containers and runs regularly between China and Northern Europe. Now the “Ever Ace” has also come to northern Germany.
The world’s largest container ship, the brand new “Ever Ace”, called at the Port of Hamburg for the first time on Wednesday.
The giant freighter can load 23,992 standard containers (TEU), which is 28 TEU more than the “HMM Algeciras” and her sister ships, which until recently were able to claim the title of the world’s largest container giants. The “Ever Ace”, like the “Ever Given”, which was wrecked in the Suez Canal in March, belongs to the Taiwanese shipping company Evergreen. It runs on a regular scheduled service between China and Northern Europe with Hamburg as the last address.
In container shipping, the trend has been towards ever larger ships for many years. The external dimensions of the currently largest container giants in the Megamax class – around 400 meters long and 61 meters wide – have not changed for years, but they are carrying more and more containers – and correspondingly more weight.
